Is your little one having a hard time learning to read? You are not alone, and there is free help close to home. Fraser Academy’s Outreach Centre (FAX) has teamed up with Kitsilano Neighbourhood House to offer free Early Literacy Screening for children ages 4 to 7.
The screening spots early signs of reading difficulty, giving families clarity and reassurance. With the right support early on, kids can build confidence, strengthen essential skills, and start a brand new chapter on solid ground.
How it works
Each session has two parts: a 90 minute online workshop for parents, followed by a 30 minute in-person screening for your child.
| Session | Online parent workshop | In-person screening |
|---|---|---|
| Fall | October 14, 2026 | October 16, 2026 |
| Winter | February 17, 2027 | February 19, 2027 |
| Spring | May 27, 2027 | May 28, 2027 |
Free support for early learners
From April 5 to May 14, 2027, FAX will also run a free, six week literacy intervention for children identified as at-risk through the screening. It is by invitation only, so register for the February 19 session to be considered.
