Dust off the tux and grab your best gown, Kits. High Stakes: Double Down for Mental Health is back, and this is one night where everyone walks away a winner.
A night out with a lot riding on it
High Stakes is The Kelty Foundation’s signature casino night, and it has a sweet spot in our neighbourhood’s story: the very first one took over the Hollywood Theatre right here on West Broadway. Expect casino tables, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment, auctions and a dance floor that fills up fast. Last time around, guests went full Old Hollywood Glam and helped raise $400,000 in a single evening.

Why the stakes are so high
The Kelty Foundation started when Kerry and Ginny Dennehy lost their 17-year-old son Kelty to depression, and later their daughter Riley. They turned that grief into a mission: making sure kids and families in BC can get mental health support when they need it most. To date, the foundation has raised more than $8 million for mental health initiatives, including the Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre at BC Children’s Hospital.
The need is real. The foundation notes that around 95,000 children and youth in BC are experiencing mental health challenges at any given time, and only about half are getting the services they need.
Where your chips go
Every dollar raised at High Stakes supports the Kind Mind Program, which brings free mental health tools into elementary schools across BC. It helps kids aged 5 to 12, along with their parents and teachers, start real conversations about mental wellbeing and learn about local resources long before a crisis hits. Free programs for this age group are rare, and schools have jumped at the chance to take part.
Deal yourself in
Whether you’re grabbing a ticket, rallying a table of friends, or donating an auction item, there’s a way to get in on the action. Local businesses interested in sponsoring can reach out to the foundation directly.
So ante up, Kits. When our community goes all in for kids, the odds are always in their favour.
