In partnership with the Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC and Hellenic community, the West Broadway BIA is excited to celebrate the anniversary of Greek independence in the Greek heritage business district in Kitsilano and throughout the City. The War of Greek Independence, (1821–32), rebellion of Greeks within the Ottoman Empire, is a struggle which resulted in the establishment of an independent kingdom of Greece. The revolution is celebrated by Greeks around the world as independence day on March 25th.

VANCOUVER’S SALUTE TO HELLENISM
The Greek-Canadian Community in BC is collaborating to promote and celebrate the 200 Years of Greek Freedom and Independence. The City of Vancouver has issued a proclamation and raised 56 Greek Flags at five flag stations for the month of March to commemorate the historic event. The five Flag Stations are at : Fraser & Kingsway, Vancouver City Hall (12th & Cambie), Terminal & Station, Nicola & West Georgia, Denman & Davie.
DRIVE-BY-PARADE
A drive by salute has been scheduled for March 25th, 2021. Greek diaspora will gather in their cars at Sts. Nicholas & Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church ( 4541 Boundary Road, Vancouver ) at 11:00 a.m. The procession of cars with visit the five flag stations noted above , and end with a wreath drop off at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 4500 Arbutus Drive.
