Gurvin Jewellers
Owner: Michael Gurvin
Year Established: 1953
Gurvin Jewellers began in the early 1950’s at 710 West Hastings Street. Michael’s father, Abe Gurvin, single-handedly initiated the art of ‘ear-piercing’, and pierced literally thousands of women’s ears in the fifty’s and sixty’s. In 1959, the business moved to 866 Granville Street next to the Orpheum Theatre.
Gurvin Jewellers expanded and developed with Michael’s assistance at the helm, and in 1969, a new store was designed and built at 848 Granville Street before their eventual move to their current retail space on West Broadway. Michael is a very “hands on” jeweller and oversees all aspects of the business and enjoys his time spent at the work bench creating custom designs or attending to repairs of our clientele’s fine jewellery.
The best saying Michael has come across in his many years in the jewellery business is:
“Jewellery is not expensive, it’s priceless.”
