The Salvation Army Thrift Store
Manager: Rachel Antonio
Year Established: 1908
The Salvation Army Thrift Store was formed by founder William Booth, who formed the ‘Household Salvage Brigade’ in Europe in response to the fear of diseases and the desire to preserve the land. The brigade comprised of men and women responsible for the collection of unwanted household and everyday items. In 1908 this salvage work (now called recycling) began in Toronto, leading to modern day thrift stores. Our current stores are a modern day household salvage brigade as we are committed to helping our neighbours in need, our communities and the environment.
