Ethel’s Boutique
Owner: Margie Shepard
Year Established: 1970
The original boutique opened on Fourth Avenue in 1970 by Ethel Pollock, a resident of Kits and a talented seamstress with an eye for women’s clothes and fashion. In the early years of the store, Ethel also custom designed and tailored clothes personally, adding to the local style and international brands that she sold. This combination of funky “finds” and genuine personal service remains as the hallmark of the “Ethel’s” experience today. In the 1980’s, Ethel’s daughter, Margie Sheppard, began working in the local Vancouver women’s clothing shop and eventually took over the business. Today, Margie continues to bring a keen eye for must-have style essentials (think tights and leggings) and fashion forward clothing and accessories to her customers on West Broadway, the Kits neighborhood and beyond.
