Minerva’s Mediterranean Deli
Owner: Mike Georgiopoulos
Year Established: 1971
Minerva’s supermarket and deli specialized in Mediterranean products with specialty items imported from multiple countries including Greece, Italy, Turkey, Bulgaria, Egypt and Morocco. The original location started off primarily as a souvenir shop, but over the past few decades business grew and the amount of souvenirs was steadily outnumbered by their food products. Top sought items were imported feta cheese and olive oils, as well as house made dips like hummus and tzatziki, greek salad and gyros. Mike and his wife of almost 50 years, Lara, made everything as their mothers used to in Greece. They had an indoor seating area available if you want to read the paper or catch up on your sports, or dine al fresco on their patio and watch the neighbourhood traffic go by. Many Kits locals frequented Minerva’s, but it also attracted superstar visitors – even Angelina Jolie stopped in!
